I am Mmathabo Sukati.Â
I am first, a highly spiritual woman whose whole life is anchored in the Lord, a doting mother of five, a grandmother.
Second, I am a seasoned corporate executive, business leader and governance expert who served in various industries both in the private and public sector.Â
At the age of 15, I was forced into an arranged marriage by my parents. I was married off to a man who was 24 years older than me, as his second wife. I had to live with both of them under the same roof. His wife could not have children and I was used as a baby making machine. I gave birth to 4 children over a period of under 6 years. I was suicidal up to a point where I realised that even suicide was not an option. I was worried that if I leave my children they will suffer and be mistreated by these two people I lived with. In my book: The Child Bride: From Captive to Courageous, I share my story of how I escaped from the marriage without a cent in my pocket and went back to school. It is a story of triumph, strength and courage. A story of forgiveness and resilience.Â
I hold a B Com: Financial Accounting and Information Systems from the University of Cape Town (1996). A Post-Graduate Diploma in Accounting and B Com: Honors in Accounting from the same university. I also hold an MBA from the University of Pretoria (2011) and a Program for Leadership Development from Harvard Business School (2025)Â
